The blockade coordinator, Catarina Martins, defended today that the convention of the Movement Europe and Freedom (MEL) was the “mirror of the absolute incapacity and the situation of disintegration in which the right finds itself”, with “no proposal for the country”.
The Movement for Europe and Freedom (MEL) held its third convention in Lisbon between Tuesday and Wednesday, centered on “reconstruction” of the country, in which the president of the PSD, Rui Rio, debuted in the interventions, who joined the already repeated leaders of the CDS-PP, Chega e Iniciativa Liberal, having counted in the audience, but without speaking, with the presence of the former Prime PSD minister and leader Pedro Passos Coelho.
Today, on the sidelines of an initiative in Alcochete, Setúbal, on the social and environmental problems of collecting bivalves in the Tagus estuary, Catarina Martins was questioned about this meeting.
I didn’t get it very well. A major meeting of rights on the future of the country was announced. It was neither a meeting nor a proposal for the country ”, started by answering.
For the BE leader, the MEL convention “was a mirror of the absolute incapacity and the situation of disintegration in which the right is”.
At the end of the convention, on Wednesday, Rui Rio regretted that the secretary general of the PS, António Costa, did not “seize the opportunity” to have an opposition leader who wants to reform, accusing the Socialist Party of being “the corporation of the system”.
The president of the CDS-PP, on the other hand, defended that a “strong right” is needed to face the left, and rejected an “obsession with the center”, considering that “to be only in the center is to want to be everything and its opposite”.
The president of the Liberal Initiative, João Cotrim Figueiredo, warned, in turn, the PSD not to count on his party to “play the game of the left”, although he said he was available to put his growth “at the service of change” .
The president of Chega, André Ventura, defended that Rui Rio “has not been able to play his role of opposition to the right” and that the left deserves a “political blow” instead of “chocolates”.
