Government closes meat exports for 30 days due to price increases

The members of the Chamber of Suppliers and Matarifes of Argentina (Camya) made a call for dialogue and reflection to the Government and to all sectors of livestock, to find a way out of the conflict that was generated from the official decision to close beef exports for 30 days and that led to a marketing cessation of hacienda until this Friday.

In this sense, the Chamber said in a statement that a great effort is being made to guarantee supply on these dates, but they warned that according to the survey they have carried out, “the empty counters will begin to be seen as of next week. , because there will be no merchandise to offer ”.

“As of Monday and Tuesday, there is a shortage of supplies as a result of the agricultural strike. We do not want to reach that moment, but we calculate that as of Monday there will be shortages “(Rafael)

In dialogue with this medium, the president of the Chamber, Leonardo Rafael, stated that “until Saturday and Sunday we will arrive with the stock to supply the butchers and, as of Monday and Tuesday, there will be a shortage due to the strike agricultural. We don’t want to get to that moment, but we calculate that as of Monday there will be shortages ”.

“You have to understand that there are millions of Argentines with needs and from our activity we do not want that meat that represents us so much and calls us to sit at a table and share. These are very difficult days for all of us, thousands of jobs and imperative needs are at stake to satisfy, let us not be won over by pettiness and speculation. Let us make this country a great homeland, where there is no shortage of work or meat, “said the entity in a statement.

Supply and prices

Last week the slaughterers met with government officials, where they offered Matías Kulfas, Minister of Productive Development, to comply with the logistics and distribution of the meat to the neighborhoods where today it does not reach cheaper prices, especially for the most vulnerable consumer that resides in the second and third cordon of Buenos Aires, and also in Gran Santa Fe, Gran Rosario and in Mar del Plata.

In that sense, Rafael commented that “he offered to make a development of 200 to 300 butcher shops located in the most neglected places. Paula Español (Secretary of Commerce) liked it but we still haven’t had an official response to the proposal ”.

“There were no raises from meat to the counter. There could have been someone that is out of the generality, who has speculated, but the values of the last rise could not be transferred, “he added.

Yesterday a report by Analytica Agriculture and Economics was published that reflected that exports do not affect the prices of the domestic market, but quite the opposite. “An increase of 1% in export volume would generate a decrease of 0.107%, 0.097% and 0.089% in domestic consumer prices for roast, vacuum and loin, respectively,” determined the work carried out by Serena Olivera and Marcelo Katogui from from an econometric analysis, who also warned that the current pandemic situation has already caused an increase in the prices of roast (0.17%), empty (0.15%) and loin (0.11%).
