Government this Saturday extended the closure of borders until June 11 and renewed the temporary residences of foreigners for 30 days. It did so at the same time that the new provisions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the national territory began to apply.

Through Administrative Decision 512/2021, published in the Official Gazette, “Administrative Decision No. 2252/20, and its complementary regulations, are extended to safeguard public health.” This is explained in the text signed by the Chief of Cabinet, Santiago Cafiero; the Minister of the Interior, Eduardo “Wado” de Pedro; and the Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti.

In this way, “the suspension of authorizations and permits” provided for direct flights “as origin or destination is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Brazil, Chile, Mexico and India as origin”.

Meanwhile, it is established that the Ministry of Health “will determine the points of entry to the country, routes and places that meet the best basic capabilities to respond to the internationally declared health emergency of COVID-19.”

For its part, the National Migration Directorate “may authorize the entry of people into the national territory through other border crossings, when there are special and accredited humanitarian reasons that warrant it,” giving intervention to the Ministry of Foreign Relations and Worship.

In another order, the validity of temporary, transitory and precarious residences granted to foreigners who are in the country, as well as visas and other consular entry permits, is extended for 30 calendar days.

Among the recitals, the authorities explained that the measures are based on the fact that “there are new variants of SARS-CoV-2, with more transmissibility and, potentially, more seriousness.” It was also evaluated “that in Argentina, in recent weeks, there was an increase in the number of cases and new variants of SARS-CoV-2 were detected, related to travelers or their contacts” for which it is “necessary the extension and extension of the preventive measures adopted “in a timely manner.
