From the city of Trujillo, the head of the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), Piero Corvetto, made a call to maintain confidence in the electoral institutions that are in charge of conducting the elections, on June 6, through which the President of the Republic will be elected.

“There is currently a campaign that tries to undermine the prestige of the electoral institutions to prepare a situation with which it is intended to justify that some sector does not accept the electoral results”, he warned.

“There is no possibility that someone can bend the popular will”He added when explaining the guarantees provided by the current institutional design of the Peruvian electoral system.

In the first place, Corvetto explained, electoral bodies are autonomous, they do not depend on any power of the State. In addition, those who have the responsibility of leading the voting tables and counting the votes are randomly chosen citizens, while party officials can witness all parts of the process.

Finally, the electoral records are public knowledge, as they are digitized and published on the website of the ONPE.

With regard to the results of the second presidential election, the head of the ONPE announced that, as in the first round, there will be a first preview on Sunday, June 6 at 11:30 pm

“This first advance will reflect what will have reached the 104 computer centers that we have in the country at that time; mainly, urban vote. We have to be very cautious, because that initial result may change “Corvetto stated.

“We calculate that the next day, in the morning, we should already have an important part of the rural vote and on Tuesday the vote from abroad will begin to arrive”, he specified.

By meeting with authorities and public and private entities of La Libertad, Corvetto guaranteed that the June 6 elections will be clean and transparent, as a product of the professional work of the ONPE and the National Jury of Elections (JNE).
