From the city of Trujillo, the head of the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), Piero Corvetto, made a call to maintain confidence in the electoral institutions that are in charge of conducting the elections, on June 6, through which the President of the Republic will be elected.
“There is currently a campaign that tries to undermine the prestige of the electoral institutions to prepare a situation with which it is intended to justify that some sector does not accept the electoral results”, he warned.

“There is no possibility that someone can bend the popular will”He added when explaining the guarantees provided by the current institutional design of the Peruvian electoral system.
In the first place, Corvetto explained, electoral bodies are autonomous, they do not depend on any power of the State. In addition, those who have the responsibility of leading the voting tables and counting the votes are randomly chosen citizens, while party officials can witness all parts of the process.
Finally, the electoral records are public knowledge, as they are digitized and published on the website of the ONPE.
