The Lenovo Tenerife Prince Philip assaulted after comfortably defeating an erratic Casademont Zaragoza (60-91). The Aurinegro team returned to the path of triumph after the ugly defeat with Urbas Fuenlabrada and for their elimination at the first exchange in the Final eight of the Basketball Champions League held in Russian soil.
Those of Txus Vidorreta, who already had third place in the Endesa League in their pockets, gave a very good image against a rival from whom more offensive production was expected. As is customary, the Marcelinho Huertas-Gio Shermadini duo led the way in the scoring chapter with 16 and 20 points. Both were well supported by Tyler Cavanaugh (9 rebounds) and Sasu Salin (11 points). Lenovo Tenerife closes the regular league next Saturday at the Santiago Martín pavilion against FC Barcelona. It will be Pau Gasol’s reunion with the island of Tenerife, although unfortunately Tenerife fans will not be lucky enough to see a world basketball legend in situ, and the best Spanish player in history.
The match against Casademont Zaragoza did not have long. Only in the first quarter the team of Luis Casimiro, who no longer played anything, gave war to Lenovo Tenerife (8-2). The maximum income in the first quarter was 8 points (22-14), to end it with a 24-17.
The second set improved the Lenovo Tenerife with the passing of the minutes, with the Brazilian Marcelinho Huertas and, above all, with Gio Shermadini ruling in the paint with a manifest authority. The island team improved in attack repeatedly looking for the low post, where the Georgian giant pitched at ease. At a quarter of an hour, those of Txus Vidorreta had already turned the scoreboard (29-30), after a free kick by Marcelinho Huertas; and in the intermission they continued to dominate the duel (37-41). At halftime, Shermadini had already reached 18 PIR credits (he finished with 31), based on 8 points and 6 rebounds in just 13 minutes of play.
The third period was more of the same. The Aurinegro team maintained its high performance in the first bars of the restart and stretched its lead to eight points (40-48), after a triple by Huertas and two easy baskets by Shermadini. The Casademont, erratic in the triple where they signed a blushing 1 of 13 (7%), had no answers to contain the Tenerife deployment, which extended their advantage with two pitches from the silent killer Sasu Salin (44-54). Zaragoza’s coach, Luis Casimiro, stopped the game with a time-out but that did not help much, as Lenovo Tenerife reached the highest income of the game at the end of the third set. (48-61).
The last quarter was a military walk for the visitors who took advantage of the apathy of a Casademont Zaragoza that offered its worst version. The Lenovo Tenerife adds and continues (60-91).

We have been growing during the game, we have worked very well defensively from the first quarter and that has given us confidence. The worst thing was our first minutes missing a few triples ”.
Luis Casimiro: “We cannot give the image we have given”
The Casademont Zaragoza coach, Luis Casimiro, highlighted after the defeat of his team that they could not give the image they had given and that it hurt “for the team and for the club.”

Pau Gasol’s Barça visits Santiago Martín on Saturday
The Txus Vidorreta team closes the regular phase next Saturday, 7:45 p.m., receiving second-placed FC Barcelona at Santiago Martín. Pau Gasol is expected to travel with the Catalan team, returning to Tenerife after his successful tour of the NBA where he won two rings with the Los Angeles Lakers franchise. It is a pity that Tenerife fans cannot enjoy a great game when played behind closed doors due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Tenerife is not in Level-1 and therefore the match will be played behind closed doors. Barça will give its most important players a rest because next week they will face the Final Four of the Euroleague.
