Passenger bookings on TAP flights between Portugal and the United Kingdom “have more than doubled” since Portugal entered the green list of destinations in England, the carrier said in a statement.
From May 7 to 11, the volume of reservations for TAP flights between the two countries more than doubled, in sales on the company’s website, compared to the same period of the previous week (April 30 to May 4) immediately before the inclusion of Portugal in the “green list” [lista verde]”, indicated TAP, noting that “the growth in the number of reservations was 131%”.
“To respond to the increase in demand, also boosted by a promotional campaign for the destination Portugal that TAP started in the English market, with the ‘claim’ ‘Unlock Portugal’, the national airline will considerably increase its offer of flights between the two countries next month, ”said the carrier, in the same note.
Thus, “in June, between Lisbon and London / Heathrow, TAP increases from the current 10 flights per week, to 19 weekly flights”, with the carrier “still going to resume the route between the Portuguese capital and London Gatwick airport, with flights five times a week ”.
In turn, “between Porto and London Gatwick, TAP increases the number of weekly flights from four to seven, starting in June,” said the company.
The carrier also indicated that today “Portugal lifts restrictions imposed on the entry of passengers on non-essential journeys, allowing British tourists to enter, but not only”, with “more than 20 countries where TAP currently operates and whose passengers can now travel to Portugal for leisure ”.
In this list are Germany, Angola, Belgium, Cape Verde, Canada, Denmark, United States, Spain, France, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, Mozambique, Poland, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, São Tomé, Senegal and Switzerland.
The lifting of restrictive measures now allows foreign tourists to enter Portugal, promoting tourism and the national economy ” TAP said.
The carrier recalled that “the limitation to travel for essential reasons only remains for passengers from countries where the incidence rate of covid-19 remains equal to or greater than 500 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in the last 14 days”, which ceases to ” apart from three countries where TAP is operating: Brazil, the Netherlands and Sweden ”.
“In total, TAP is operating 248 weekly flights to European destinations and 31 weekly flights to African destinations”, with “between Portugal and Brazil, the company is operating a total of 26 flights per week” and in South America North 16 weekly calls.
“As already announced, TAP is making three flights a week between Lisbon and Cancun in Central America”, he recalled, adding that “TAP’s offer represents 34% in May and 49% of capacity in June, compared to the same 2019 periods, pre-pandemic ”.
The carrier recalled that “passengers arriving in Portugal by air continue to have to present proof of laboratory test RT-PCR to covid-19, with a negative result, carried out 72 hours prior to the moment of departure” and that “Passengers from countries whose travels for non-essential reasons remain limited must still comply with a period of prophylactic isolation of 14 days”.
Finally, he recalled, “tickets for TAP flights purchased until May 31, with a travel date scheduled until December 31, 2021, benefit from a free change”.
