Boca Juniors beat River Plate at La Bombonera and reached the semifinals of the Professional League Cup. Julio Buffarini was in charge of shooting the last ball stopped from the twelve steps and closing the series; however, after scoring, no one celebrated with him.

The xeneizes footballers who were on the edge of the field, did not understand what had just happened. Everyone stayed in their place and did not go to hug Julio because they thought they had to keep kicking.

Izquierdoz was the only one who explained that the match had already ended. They even had to ask the referee to clear the doubt and he confirmed it.

Boca to semifinals

Boca Juniors qualified for the semifinals of the Argentine League Cup by winning the Superclásico 4-2 on penalties this Sunday against River Plate, after drawing 1-1 in 90 minutes at the La Bombonera stadium in Buenos Aires.

Carlos Tevez (10) opened the account for Boca and Julián Álvarez (68) pointed to the equality for River in the regular time of the clash that closed the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Boca was the great favorite, after River suffered the loss of 15 players from its squad due to covid-19, among them several regular holders of Marcelo Gallardo’s eleven that even had to summon the youthful goalkeeper Leo Díaz, without previous matches in the first division.
