Last January, the bombshell news jumped. Tom Dumoulin, one of the most talented cyclists in the international peloton, was leaving him. He announced that he was retiring temporarily, jaded, uncomfortable with his performance. This Thursday, his team the Jumbo Visma, has confirmed that the Dutchman is back: he will get on the bike next June 6 in the Tour of Switzerland.

Dumoulin opted to take time off to rethink your career path. A decision that caused enormous surprise both in the squad and in his own team. At 30, the Dutch preferred not to receive his salary during the absence.

The dapper cyclist, great specialist against the clock, had won the 2017 Giro and was second in the next one and on that same Tour. Before, he had attracted attention in the 2015 Vuelta, where he finished sixth and was the leader in several days. He was also a time trial world champion in 2017. His career began to stagnate in 2019 due to an injury for one each at the Giro. His best performance was made last year as a gregarious member of Primoz Roglic.

According to his own team, the Dutch has as one of the objectives of his return Olympic gold in Tokyo in the time trial specialty (in Ro it was silver after Cancellara). After the Tour of Switzerland, Dumoulin will compete in preparation for the Netherlands time trial and long distance championships.
