Contacts advance to manufacture Israel's coronavirus vaccine in Argentina

The Chief of Staff, Santiago Cafiero, and the Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti, held a working meeting this morning with a health delegation from Israel to analyze “the possibility of being strategic partners in the development of the candidate vaccine” of that country and share experiences on tackling the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

The meeting took place in the Eva Perón room of the Casa Rosada and the presidential advisor Cecilia Nicolini; the Argentine ambassador in Israel, Sergio Urribarri; his Israeli counterpart in Argentina, Galit Ronen; and Hadassah Hospital Director Ein Kerem.

“It is a very important delegation, of specialists, to work on the possibility of collaboration between Israel and Argentina, not only in the possibility of being strategic partners in the development of Israel’s candidate vaccine and being part of the production chain, but also to share experiences with members of the health teams that attended the second wave, “said Vizzotti.

For his part, in dialogue with the accredited press, the executive director of the Hadassah International hospital, Jorge Diener, highlighted that the delegation of seven experts arrived in Buenos Aires “at the invitation of the Argentine Government” and that it is the first outing of character. strategic outside of Israel.

“We are talking about cooperation in extraordinary times. Israel beat the pandemic locally but maintains a commitment to share knowledge in places where the fire continues to burn,” he said.

Regarding the negotiations, as explained by the representatives of both groups, they would include the possibility of carrying out in Argentina a part of the phase 3 tests of the “Brilife” vaccine that would need from 30,000 to 50,000 volunteers and, at a later stage, the technology transfer that would allow the production of doses for the country and the region.

Meanwhile, Argentine Ambassador Sergio Urribarri highlighted the “rapprochement” and “fruitful relationship” between the two nations since Alberto Fernández visited Israel in January 2020.

“In Israel there is a lot of trust in Argentine human resources. This is a visit not only for exploration, but to share experiences,” he said.

Asked by the press regarding the progress in other negotiations, Vizzotti affirmed: “We have contacts with Cuba, which is finishing its enrollment and with the interim analysis of two of its candidate vaccines in phase 3 and the possibility of being strategic partners. This possibility Israel is very important for Argentina and we continue working with China for possible contracts. “

In addition, he confirmed that “this week” there will be meetings with the representatives of AstraZeneca to find out when “they are going to release the vaccines that were formulated in the United States and in Mexico.”
