A few weeks after the population decides on the new public function that will make up the Town Halls and the Provincial Councils, the collective “Red Purple: Sorority to Transcend”, He says that one of the serious problems that administrations urgently need to address is that they are open to having a true gender perspective.
Given the backwardness and sexist violence that women have suffered around the public function, as well as as beneficiaries, Various feminist collectives in Mexico have taken on the task of putting a magnifying glass on the electoral processes that the country is going through, which this year is one of the largest in all democratic history.
“We are observing the proposals to see if they effectively meet the requirements of involving women in their agendas”, stated Yunuen Castillo, co-founder of the Purple Network in Saltillo, which is dedicated to observing and attending to some of the cases of gender violence that are registered.
As the main urgency that the expert on gender and human rights issues says, is the openness to women to participate in politics effectively, and not only for complying with the gender quotas established now by law, as this would end up falling into a simulation.
“Here I would say that we must see the substantive participation of women with decision-making autonomy. It happens that they put us to meet a number, but in the end they do not allow the range of decision, and women have to follow a line that is always imposed by a man ”, she said.
“It is also important to work and promote a comprehensive program to strengthen the mainstreaming of the gender perspective., with an intersectional approach, with a human rights approach. Because public officials and civil servants sensitive to these issues and adequate training are urgently needed, ”he says.
Regarding this, she says that, for example, municipalities already have programs for women beneficiaries in different areas, both in violence and in the generation of opportunities; HoweverWhen these resources are used, officials do not show that they are really trained, and there are even cases where women themselves are revictimized.
“When a woman asks for help, they do not attend to her, or they delay, or they revictimize her, so we can fall into the simulation. And if we continue to have untrained people, we will not achieve the desired objectives, ”Yunuen said.
Likewise, the also member of the Todos MX Citizen Observatory, says that although there are competencies in the matter of justice, the municipality must make use of its preventive resource for violence against women, as well as help with the adequate channeling of women who are victims of it.
“And in this problem I also say that in the Municipality, we do not have clear statistics. We do not have information on how many women there are in Saltillo, how many victims of violence, whistleblowers or not, women at work, and this is needed based on the numbers, to see how we are going to solve the problems ”, stated Yunuen Castillo.
Likewise, it ensures that the 3 of 3 against violence against women should be one of the pillars that should be given attention in the elections. It is expected that it will be an initiative that is applied not only to candidates, but to the entire public administration so that there are no people who violated a woman or debtors of obligations.
In this sense, he assured that the Observatory is closely watching the promises that the candidates have made on the matter to remember them later., since they have detected that many of the candidates are interested and can call themselves “allies”; however, there are cases where when arriving at the position, the proposals are forgotten, as well as it will be observed that the resources are really injected.
“At the end of the day you need a budget: policies public without resources, they are speech ”, he expressed.
