This wine from Tenerife has been chosen the best of the Canary Islands in 2021

The wine Los Olivos Park Farm red, from the Canary Islands PDO, made in Arico (Tenerife) for Transformaciones y Servicios SL, has obtained the award of Best Wine of the Canary Islands in the Official Contest Agrocanarias 2021.

This was announced by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands, Alicia Vanoostende, and the director of the Canarian Institute of Agrifood Quality (ICCA), Basilio Pérez, during a press conference.

The special distinction for the Best Image and Presentation has gone to the dry white Niray wine, from the La Gomera PDO, made by Agropecuaria El Guanche SLU; the Great Gold Medal and Best Organic Wine of the Canary Islands for the organic white Ferrera wine, from the Canary Islands PDO, made by Bodegas Ferrera SL (Tenerife); and the Great Gold Medal and Best Wine Chosen by the Panel of Winemakers of the Canary Islands went to Luna de Yariza white barrel, from the PDO Valle de Güímar (Tenerife), produced by Bodega Tempus SAT.

This regional contest recognized the best elaborated and bottled productions out of a total of 181 samples representing the 11 Canarian PDOs, grouped into 12 different categories according to the type of wine.

The counselor highlighted the high participation of wineries and explained that the Canary Islands have “totally different” wines from the rest of the world, a singularity that in a globalized market represents a “great strength and opportunity” for Canarian wines because “it is about a special product, with very diverse local varieties and cultivation techniques that make them unique ”.

Along these lines, he defended the need to “continue betting on this product of great added value, with many young people who are joining the activity with passion, enthusiasm and work, which is reflected in the result of these high-quality wines; behind these wines is the great work of the harvesters and winemakers, of that heroic viticulture present in our way of understanding the cultivation of the vineyard ”.

For his part, the director of the ICCA, Basilio Pérez, pointed out that the Official Agrocanarias Wines Contest “has proven to be an effective tool for promoting this sector, in which the best wines with PDO from the islands and that has been gaining in prestige among all the sectors involved ”.

Likewise, he pointed out that the aim pursued with the organization of this type of event “is to improve the quality and presentation of the products, as well as their dissemination, providing a quality mark to all participating wines and giving credibility to the sector before an increasingly demanding consumer ”.
