3 days ago, José Mourinho said in The Times newspaper that after his dismissal from Tottenham he did not immediately have any plans to return to football quickly.
But it is not for the first time that the Portuguese has accelerated the media with his statements. A few hours after AS Roma announced that they will not continue with coach Paulo Fonseca, Mourinho has already been announced for next season.
The fact that Roma has re-entered the Portuguese market is not a total surprise. With Tiago Pinto, the club, which may not play European football next season, has a Portuguese sports director.
For Mourinho it is a return to Serie A, where he achieved great success with Inter between 2008 and 2010. In his last season he even managed to win the treble (title, cup and Champions League), after which he moved to Real Madrid.
“We are delighted to welcome José Mourinho to the Roma family,” said US chairman owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin. “He is a great champion who has won awards at every level. José will add leadership and experience to our ambitious project.”
Mourinho himself was quickly convinced of Roma’s offer. “They share the same ambition and drive that have always motivated me. We want to build a winning project in the coming years.”
“The incredible passion of Roma fans has convinced me to accept the job. I can’t wait to start next season.”
