In Peru and other American countries, biting, -a substitutes in familiar speech for the biting general, -a. The derivative bite belongs to an American series of adjectives (pedilón, pegalón, etc.) in which the suffix -ón has been displaced by a supposed suffix * -lon, whose initial ele corresponds to the final ele of a radical combined with the suffix -ón (as in mocking, flamboyant, etc.). Mordelón is documented in the DRAE 2014 only with the sense of ‘police who accept bribes’, limited to Honduras and Mexico.
