Isabel Bonig has not resisted the wishes of Genoa and leaves free to Carlos Mazn so that he becomes the next leader of the PP in the Valencian Community and candidate for the president of the Generalitat. The current president and spokesperson in the Cortes has communicated to the national leadership that do not apply at the regional congress, which will be dated by the board of directors convened next Thursday.

Bonig thus accepts the decision of the party leadership, which he has always seen in the president of the Alicante Provincial Council his strong man in the Valencian Community. Confident person of the secretary general of the PP, Teodoro Garca Egea, has become in the last months in the standard bearer of the opposition to the policies of the government of Ximo Puig without having a seat in the Cortes. With Toni Cant off the Valencian radar after his jump to Madrid, the bet of Pablo Casado is clear and unambiguous by the ‘popular’ leader from Alicante.

Until a few weeks ago, the current president defended her intention to run for reelection despite knowing Gnova’s preference for Mazn. However, her position had changed after seeing how she lost the departure of the provincial congresses (especially that of Castelln, her province) and after having different conversations with the party leaders in which she did not feel supported. A woman loyal to the party, she understands that just as she took the reins at a delicate moment, with the loss of the Generalitat government in 2015 and splashed by corruption, she now accepts the decision to withdraw. That s, after the regional congress it will be decided if it continues to be the parliamentary spokesperson to face the Botnic until the end of the legislature in 2023.

At close range of the call for the regional board, sources from the national leadership of the PP have shown their gratitude to Bonig for “his work, effort and dedication, since in July 2015 he took over the party at a very difficult time” in which, in his opinion, he has exposed “the mismanagement of the Valencian government of Ximo Puig.” “Bonig will continue to be a key actor for the party at the regional and national level”, they point in the PP.

“It will be the militants who choose who will lead the party in the coming years,” they point out from Genoa, but the truth is that, although the mayor of Ayora has also expressed his intention to present himself, Jos Vicente Anaya, there is already a clear favorite, anointed by the leadership of the party, and that is Mazn. Casado is entrusted with the task of “renewing and fine-tuning the structure and being prepared to win the next elections in the autonomous community” and working so that the national candidate “arrives soon in Moncloa.”
