Depay keeps the title fight alive with Lyon

Lyon is 70 points due to the victory, 6 less than leader Lille OSC. National champion Paris Saint-Germain has 75 points and AS Monaco has 71. There are three rounds of play in the French league.

Kevin Volland opened the scoring for the home team at the Stade Louis II in Monaco. Depay took care of the equalizer after almost an hour. He cut out a few defenders and shot the ball past goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte. It was the nineteenth competition goal for the Orange International.

Marcelo put Lyon 1-2 with a header from a Depay free kick. After Wissam Ben Yedder had brought Monaco back to the same level from a penalty kick in the final phase, substitute Rayan Cherki gave Lyon the win.

Both teams saw two red cards in the game. Pietro Pellegri and Willem Geubbels got red on behalf of Monaco for their part in a riot immediately afterwards, Mattia De Sciglio got red at Lyon, which already had ten men after the second yellow card for Maxence Caqueret.
