The historical drummer Rodolfo García is brain dead after suffering a stroke

Drummer Rodolfo García, a historic Argentine rock musician and co-founder of Almendra, suffered a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) yesterday and, despite having undergone surgery, presents an irreversible state of brain death, sources from his family confirmed to Télam.

The 74-year-old artist was a key figure in the dawn of national rock in the 1960s, and founded the seminal Almendra together with Luis Alberto Spinetta, Edelmiro Molinari and Emilio del Guercio.

Later he was a drummer for Aquelarre and Tantor, he collaborated with Litto Nebbia in Nebbia’s Band, with Víctor Heredia, with Pedro and Pablo and, closer in time, again with Spinetta on his latest solo album.

He also formed his own band, La Barraca, in 1989.

His commitment to Argentine culture led him to be appointed National Director of Arts under the second presidency of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, in 2014.
