Potsdam –

After a four-fold homicide in a disabled facility in Potsdam, the suspect employee (51) was admitted to a psychiatric hospital.

  • Four people killed in a home for the disabled in Potsdam
  • Employee (51) under suspicion
  • There is no more detailed information on the course of the crime

This was said by the chief Potsdam public prosecutor, Wilfried Lehmann, on Thursday after it was presented to the AFP news agency’s judge, without giving any further details. There are “corresponding indications” of a mental illness in the woman.

“We are still at the very beginning of the investigation”

The public prosecutor’s office still did not provide more detailed information on the course of the crime and possible background to what happened in the Brandenburg state capital. “We are still at the very beginning of the investigation,” said Lehmann. Mentioning such details could reveal knowledge of the perpetrator and thus jeopardize the investigation. So far, the authorities have only announced that the four victims died as a result of severe external violence.

In addition to the four killed, emergency services found a seriously injured fifth victim in the home. More precise information about his state of health was initially unknown. According to “picture” information, the act is said to have been committed with a knife.

Potsdam: four dead found in different rooms

The victims were found on Wednesday evening in Thusnelda-von-Saldern-Haus in Potsdam, an institution of the social service provider Oberlinhaus. Disabled people who also live there are cared for there. Police found the four victims in different rooms. The authorities have not yet provided any information about the identity of the dead. According to the investigators, the operation was triggered by an emergency call, the suspect was arrested immediately afterwards on urgent suspicion.

Staff and residents of the home were in severe shock after the crime. “That cut our legs off, you have to be very clear,” explained the theological director of the Oberlinhaus, Matthias Fichtmüller, on Thursday. There is powerlessness. The residents would have their center of life in the house. It is like a “family” for them.

Potsdam: Devotion in memory of the dead

The Oberlinhaus announced a prayer service in memory of the dead for Thursday evening. The Brandenburg Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) also wanted to take part. He was “deeply affected and sad” about the death of the people, said the head of government and spoke of a “horrific act”. People who particularly needed protection lived in the facility he valued. “The more terrifying is the act.”

Potsdam’s Lord Mayor Mike Schubert (SPD) was also shocked. “It is an incomprehensible act,” he said on Thursday. “Our thoughts today are with the relatives of those killed, the residents and all employees.”

Potsdam: Public prosecutor requests arrest warrant for manslaughter

The public prosecutor had requested an arrest warrant for manslaughter against the suspect on Thursday. There was initially no mention of a possible admission to psychiatry. Extensive securing of evidence took place on site. According to the police and the public prosecutor’s office, they ran at full speed all Thursday to reconstruct the exact processes. Around a hundred officers were on duty. (afp)
