The Government confirmed this Tuesday the murder of two Spanish journalists, who were kidnapped this Monday in eastern Burkina Faso.

The two Spanish journalists, natives of Barakaldo and Pamplona, are David Beriain, according to the newspaper Noticias, and Roberto Fraile. They worked for an NGO and developed a documentary on the operations in the country to denounce poaching, as reported by the Foreign Minister, Arancha González-Laya.

The event occurred in the area of Pama, where armed individuals ambushed a patrol of Burkinabe troops against poaching, in which Spanish journalists were embedded. “It was a very dangerous and conflictive area”, as González-Laya has recognized, where terrorist groups, poachers and bandits operate, as well as jihadist networks.
