A season to forget for Schalke 04. After the safe relegation, the next bad news followed on Tuesday (April 27): Two corona cases were detected among the professional team.
- Schalke 04 reports two positive corona tests
- FC Schalke: A player and a member of the functional team in quarantine
- Training of the Gelsenkirchen Bundesliga club canceled.
After the first evaluation, one player and one member of the functional team of the FC Schalke licensed team were affected. Both people are already in quarantine at home and, according to the club information, are symptom-free.
There was good news in the evening: Another test had “exclusively negative results”, announced the association. This also affects the player and the member of the functional team, who initially tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday.
“It can therefore be assumed with a high degree of probability that the first series of tests are false-positive tests,” said the statement from the club, which has already been relegated. The team doctor and hygiene officer Patrick Ingelfinger will discuss “the next steps, taking into account the protection against infection” with the Gelsenkirchen health department on Wednesday.
Schalke 04 canceled afternoon training
No infection had yet been detected in any of the other investigations in the recent past, and the rapid test carried out on Monday (April 26) in parallel to the alarming PCR test had not yet suggested anything.
The relegated person canceled the second training scheduled for Tuesday after the Schalke Chaos Night as a precaution and had the remaining team members tested again – without any further positive results. Luck in misfortune, because a quarantine for the entire team would make a regular season end almost impossible.
Schalke 04 with difficulties during Corona
It is not the first time that the pandemic has caused difficulties for the first division club this season.
With Ahmet Kutucu (21), Levent Mercan (20) and above all Amine Harit (24) and Alessandro Schöpf (27), four professionals have already been canceled due to the virus this season. (bl)
