Carlos Soares’ family and friends will organize a white march in the city of Pontoise, on the outskirts of Paris, on Friday, against the release of one of the suspects of the strikes of the stray bullet that killed the Portuguese in early April.
“[A marcha] It is for the value of human life. We have two young people who were killed in a complicated neighborhood, but where people help each other and there is a real community. This community, like Carlos’ widow and his whole family, does not understand why a person involved in this crime is released, without any judicial control “, explained Sandrine Parise-Heideger, lawyer of the family of Carlos Soares, in statements to the Lusa agency.
The Versailles Court last week released one of the three suspects in the Portuguese man’s murder, evoking the dangers of the covid-19 for the older man, father of one of the other suspects. Of the three suspects initially detained, at least two will have Portuguese origins.
This man, apparently, has the right to go out armed, to go to a neighborhood, to threaten people, to know that his son was going to take revenge and for the French justice there is no problem. He’s not an accomplice “, added Sandrine Parise-Heideger.
Carlos Soares’ family is still afraid that the subject, who has no obligation to remain in French territory, will flee to Portugal.
Both the father and the son were said to be armed and the two of them fired that night, it is not yet known which weapon came out of the bullet that ended up mortally wounding Carlos Soares.
As usual, the Portuguese had come to visit friends that night when a truck voluntarily ran over a young man, who also died, and one of the individuals in the vehicle got out and started shooting with a firearm. Carlos was hit by one of the bullets and could not resist his injuries, having died that same night in the hospital. The reason for this double murder was the alleged theft of a motorcycle.
Carlos Soares’ widow, Pauline, hopes to continue to count on the presence and solidarity of the Portuguese in this White March in honor of her husband.
“Portugal is not my country, it is my husband’s country, but it has become my country of heart. People are authentic, welcoming, warm. The fact that the President [da República] calling me at 11 pm, even the French President did not. France has a lot to learn from Portugal. I admire the Portuguese because you are supportive, “said the widow.
The march was declared to the municipal and security authorities of the city of Pontoise, leaving on Friday at 4:30 pm from Marcouville, the neighborhood where Carlos was born and where he was shot down.
