Belinda Carlisle (The Go-Go's) talks about her addictions: "I can't believe I'm still alive"

For decades she was the head of one of the most popular girl groups of all time. With The Go-Go’s, then solo, Belinda Carlisle lived a real life as an American rockstar, with all the excesses that entails.

In a recent interview with the Australian magazine New Idea, the now 62-year-old pop icon spoke about his addictions. A drug user since her beginnings in music, she still does not understand how she was able to survive. “I can’t believe I’m still alive”, confesses to the Australian media, the one who lived for several years in the south of France, in Fréjus.

The singer, known for her hit Heaven Is A Place On Earth, reveals that she decided to get sober after having a dream where she saw herself dying of a cocaine overdose in a hotel room. “I understood that I couldn’t go on living like this”, she says. The singer, born in Hollywood, decides to radically change her lifestyle and she claims to be sober since 2005, by adopting a strict method: no alcohol, no cigarettes, no drugs.

To accompany this change of life, Belinda Carlisle took up yoga and adopted a simple philosophy of life: “Everything is in moderation“Married since 1986 and mother of a boy born in 1992, the singer explains having known the ravages of drugs for too long. “I have lost too many friends to drugs and the fact that I’m here to talk about it today is pretty amazing “, she assured in 2017 to the magazine Loose Women.
