The presidential candidate for Peru Libre, Pedro Castillo, said this Saturday from Trujillo that, upon reaching the Presidency of the Republic, he will review the powers of the National Superintendency of Higher University Education (Sunedu), given the “complaints” against this institution.

SIGHT: Vargas Llosa: “If Castillo won the second round, it would be a real catastrophe because of his government program and his ideas”

“We believe it is important that while things are shaking politically, our children and our young university students cannot be in anxiety. There are many complaints from Sunedu as well. We are going to review and correct the actions of Sunedu because it cannot leave many young people on the street ”, affirmed before the press.

It should be remembered that the Peru Libre government plan does not make any allusion to Sunedu, neither to strengthen it nor to make a diagnosis of its situation. On the contrary, it proposes that students have free access to the University education and that a public university be created in each region, despite the existing moratorium.

Sunedu was born through a reform in July 2014, after the enactment of Law No. 30220, known as the University Law. One of its main functions is the evaluation, granting or denial of the licensing of public and private universities in the country. In addition, these higher education institutions are periodically rated by the entity, in order to ensure that they meet educational quality standards.

In this operating time, the Sunedu has licensed 92 universities, after verifying that they meet the basic quality conditions. On the other hand, it has denied licensing to 49 universities and 2 graduate schools.

The specialist in Education issues, Hugo Ñopo Aguilar, indicated to Trade that the management approach to the problems that undergraduate university students would have is not in the actions of Sunedu, but in the policies installed for these student transfers.

“The solution [para los estudiantes que provienen de universidades no licenciadas] It does not go through reviewing the Sunedu, but rather by reviewing the transfer policies of students from one university to another “Ñopo said.

In addition, it points out that the university education sector is generally seen as a “business” by authorities and private parties, which leads to obstacles for students.

“There is something more important: much of this problem exists because for a long time we have become used to education being a business. This is deeply wrong, the experts say. In this regard, it must be questioned that in Fujimorism there are characters closely linked to the educational business “emphasized the researcher.

In another moment of his presentation to the media in Trujillo, Pedro Castillo considered that the education sector “is going through a crucial problem “ and held the government responsible for the student desertion.

“More than eight million students in Peru, of these young people, infants and children, detached from the State and; However, when you go out to see a reality, the same government tells you that children have dropped out of education, of school. Be careful, I am a teacher and as a teacher I must say that the child, the student in Peru is not a deserter, the one who desertes is the State, it is the government ”, critical.

On eventual alliances

In addition, regarding possible political alliances with other groups in the framework of the second electoral round of the 2021 General Elections, the candidate for the presidential seat specified that it is necessary for political leaders to give themselves “A space to analyze, talk” and make decisions.

“We have been making alliances with the people, we support them and we will continue to support them. It is necessary for the leaders of the political parties to give us a space to analyze, to talk and to make a decision as a political party at the national level ”, He said.
