This weekend the civil association Matatenas, which is responsible for making visible and accompanying issues on child motherhood for six years giving talks and workshops, presented this weekend the “First Report on Child and Adolescent Maternity in Coahuila 2019”.

Within the Report, the group highlighted the figures on child and adolescent pregnancy in the entity, which has been on the rise in recent years, as well as the average age of the parents, which is 18 years, which gives rise to a motherhood conceived in the midst of a relationship of power and violence.

“We wanted to focus on this first report on various aspects, on the one hand that infant pregnancy begins to be separated from adolescent pregnancy, because as we have already seen in the data, the origins of one and the other are different; when child pregnancy is absolutely related to sexual violence, other factors are likely to influence adolescent (pregnancy). That is why we have to stop grouping everything together as teenage pregnancy “, explained Cinthya Moncada, president of Matatena AC

In this sense, the president of the association indicated that it is urgent that the rights of girls and adolescents victims of sexual violence be made known, so that they have guidance at the time of reporting and that Rule 046 is applied, for the interruption of the pregnancy.

“Regulation 046 guarantees the legal interruption of pregnancy to victims of sexual violence without having to present a court order, in accordance with the latest modifications made in 2016, and precisely what is sought is that it be applied without hindrance”, he pointed.
