The Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested a 38-year-old man in Barcelona as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of sexual abuse and another of professional intrusion. The man practiced as a false osteopath in his private home and sexually abused a patient after giving her a substance to drink despite being told that it was a muscle relaxant that made him partially lose consciousness. The agents attribute a single case of sexual abuse to the suspect but it is not ruled out that more complaints may appear.

The arrest took place on April 19 after the woman reported having suffered sexual abuse by an osteopath she met through a social network. After contacting her, the victim came to her office several times until one day, after a session, the fake therapist offered her a drink that was supposedly a muscle relaxant.

Shortly thereafter, the woman found herself dizzy and partially lost consciousness, at which point the detainee allegedly took advantage of the victim’s state of vulnerability to sexually abuse. When the woman fully regained consciousness, and after being visited medically, she went to a police station to file the complaint. The investigators verified that the denounced osteopath had a police record for various events, including crimes of sexist violence, and that he was not registered, for which he is also attributed a crime of professional intrusion in addition to sexual abuse.

Mossos remember the importance of being well informed before hiring the service of a professional and we always recommend making sure that they have an official qualification.
