Fernández and Kicillof analyzed the health crisis in Buenos Aires but for now there will be no new measures

President Alberto Fernández this afternoon summoned the Buenos Aires governor, Axel Kicillof, to a meeting to assess the state of the situation in the face of the growing epidemiological crisis, aggravated by the stress level of the health system in the AMBA. The leaders reviewed the numbers and projections of the pandemic, but did not resolve new restriction measures, a discussion that will surely take place next week.

Although he was not seated in the President’s office, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta was very present in the conversation between the President and the Buenos Aires governor. “They spoke of a contingency plan in the event of a possible overflow of intensive care beds in the City. The province is going to have to reinforce the health system to absorb this, ”said an important government spokesman aware of the meeting, which means a new attack against the Buenos Aires government.

The President decided to urgently summon Kicillof to the Casa Rosada when he was returning from Rosario. The governor attended together with the vice minister of Health of the province, Nicolás Kreplak, who took the numbers with the state of the health situation of the AMBA to the office of the president. Late in the meeting, Gollán’s second left the presidential office, and Kicillof and Fernández were left alone.

The meeting started at 5.30 p.m. and lasted for more than two and a half hours. In fact, the province’s helicopter that transferred the officials left the Casa Rosada heliport after 7:00 p.m. – before the storm started – but the governor continued for another hour in the President’s office.

The country remains on a very high plateau of infections. According to data released this afternoon by the Ministry of Health of the Nation, in the last day 27,884 people tested positive and there were 557 deaths from Covid-19, a new record. In the province of Buenos Aires, 14,233 new infections were reported today.

According to the data managed by the Buenos Aires government, in the province there is an occupancy level of the Therapy Units (ICU) of 55.8% -583 free beds-, while at the AMBA level there is an occupancy of 76% (776 free beds).

“They were seeing how it is going to be done to expand the capacity in the province to receive the growing demand that is causing the surplus of the CABA health system. They spent more than two hours studying different alternatives and analyzing data on beds, cases and how everything is increasing in a very accelerated way ”, government spokesmen transmitted, in a tone of alarm similar to that usually transmitted in La Plata.

Although the Government will not take immediate measures, it is expected that next week, before the current DNU expires, a new evaluation of the health situation will be carried out to define which current measures will be extended and which will be modified. “On Wednesday or Thursday we have to sit down to evaluate the number of cases, the number of deaths, the response capacity of the health system and the level of vaccination,” a senior official told LA NACION.

Kicillof calls for tougher measures in the fight against Covid-19. Today, the province’s Security Minister, Sergio Berni, said: “I am convinced that we must return to phase 1.” But that concept was not in this afternoon’s meeting at Casa Rosada.

“Am I being distracted? Do I look at the polls? What do I do?” Fernández said today during his visit to Rosario, in defense of the restrictions he imposed. “I suspended face-to-face classes because in 30 days the contagion of children under 19 years of age increased by 200%,” said the President, referring to the fight for the closure of schools in the AMBA, which led to a legal dispute with Larreta.

For now, there is no meeting between the President and the head of the Buenos Aires government on the agenda. “If Rodríguez Larreta calls him, Alberto will receive him,” they slipped into Balcarce 50.
