Arafo Police Chief Requests Protection Against "Workplace Harassment" He Suffers

The head of the Arafo Local Police, Víctor Borges, asked the City Council to open the protocol for the protection of workplace harassment that has been allegedly suffered by the two agents most “loyal” to the previous mayor, José Juan Lemes.

One of them was appointed “security coordinator”, a non-existent position in the staff, in order to reduce authority to Borges, such appointment being appealed by the Chief of Police, ruling the courts in his favor, in addition to condemning to costs to the Consistory, while the other agent, from the Güímar Police, was on commission in Arafo, where he is trying to return.

According to Borges, not content with this, the former mayor imposed a forced afternoon shift as punishment, eventually having to perform functions that did not correspond to him. After denouncing him in court, it was also ruled in his favor and the City Council was ordered to pay the costs, but he had to perform this shift for a year, during which time the litigation lasted, while the aforementioned agents, as indicated, agreed with Lemes, Through a document, carry out an exhaustive surveillance of the chief officer, in order to open a disciplinary file for alleged absences from his post, functions that, according to them, he performed and did not correspond to him, because they understood that he was not the Chief of Police.

“They came to write around a hundred reports that, later and already in the current legislature, they decided to send to the Prosecutor’s Office for the alleged inactivity of the City Council, in addition to another complaint, all of them being archived, initiating an investigation against them that currently is ongoing for various offenses. It should be noted that currently both Mr. Lemes and Agent Machi are under investigation in criminal proceedings for many other similar events, ”says Víctor Borges.

Now, the Arafo Local Police has only four members, including the officer and Francisco Machi, “theoretically two bosses and two policemen, meaningless and illegal, the only staff in the whole of the Canary Islands with one boss for each cash.”

The current mayor Juan Ramón Martín has commented that they are working to increase three more places. What had no logic is that with four policemen, the former municipal councilor, Juan José Lemes, wanted to have two officers.
