The President of the Government, Pedro Snchez, will not speak until this Friday, at three thirty in the afternoon, at the summit against Climate Change that has been convened by the President of the United States, Joe Biden, and in which 40 heads of State and Government around the world.

In fact, Sanchez’s participation will be in the last session, and it will do so right after Biden. But, whoever enters the website of La Moncloa this Thursday will find the announcement of the ‘Message from the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, at the event promoted by the President of the United States, Joe Biden’.

It is a 58-second video in which Sánchez speaks before the camera, along with the flags of Spain and the United States, to announce that “today I join President Biden and 39 other world leaders to celebrate Earth Day.” celebrate the “great achievements” made by Spain in the fight against climate change and proclaim that “our commitment is unwavering.”

The only small problem is that that message is not in the event powered by Biden. Snchez speaks at the event this Friday. What the Prime Minister has done is to invent an appearance at the summit, with a misleading headline.

A ‘false’ speech

Pedro Sanchez did not send any message at the summit, for the simple reason that he did not speak this Thursday, nor will he do so this Friday until, at the earliest, three thirty in the afternoon. The summit is virtual; Sanchez’s speech, false.

Equally misleading -although, at least, without entering the realm of manifest falsehood, as is the title of the video- is the title of the recording: “images of the president during the summit held by videoconference”, in which Snchez appears, serious, watching on a television monitor as Biden and his vice president talk Kamala Harris.

The summit, like all those that are held virtual due to Covid-19, is just a succession of speeches. If the Spanish president is going to listen to all of them, he will be, literally, without exercising other government tasks for more than 30 hours.
