English, Mandarin Chinese, and French are the most powerful languages in the world, according to the Language Power Index (PLI). This classification measures the usefulness of mastering a language taking into account the opportunities it offers in relation to tourism, the economy, communication or diplomatic relations. Technology has become a key tool to facilitate and accelerate the learning of other languages. The 8Belts method is based on artificial intelligence to get a user to learn a language in just eight months.
“One of the most innovative keys to 8Belts is that it enhances fluency and memorization by activating the parts of the brain that process and generate language, an important advantage for those who have suffered with languages,” says Fernando Moreno, CEO of 8Belts. “This allows to simplify learning for any student, regardless of their talent or age; or even for those who thought they were bad at languages ”. To develop this method, the company took into account the relationship between how many hours a user spends studying, how much they actually take advantage of and how much it translates into learning. 8Belts mathematical algorithms seek that the utilization rate reaches 100%. And there are two ways to achieve this: “By preventing students from forgetting what they have learned and deliberately excluding less relevant information.”
The method is designed so that any Spanish speaker, regardless of their age, learn Chinese, English, French or German. In just eight months and dedicating about 30 minutes a day. Currently more than 20,000 people in the world use 8Belts, according to the company. Among them, celebrities such as the singer David Bisbal or the presenter Pablo Motos stand out. Also among its clients are large Spanish companies such as BBVA, Banco Santander, Real Madrid, Telefónica, Iberdrola or Inditex.
The system, which is 100% digital, was born in 2011. Since then, a multidisciplinary team of mathematicians, computer scientists, designers, pedagogues and linguists have adapted the methodologies and processes to optimize the learning of any student. “Our team of linguists has spent years analyzing the relevance of each word that makes up the language,” says Anxo Pérez, president of the company.

On 8Belts there are no grammar lessons or conventional exercises. It works with goals. Through a gamified platform, the user must face daily challenges designed in order to achieve the best possible results in the shortest time.
The method uses algorithms to try to detect the weaknesses of each student and reinforce them. In fact, two students starting at the same level may be learning different things after the same learning period. The software it adapts to the rhythm of the student and monitors their progress at all times. That is, each step is recorded on the platform to motivate you.
More trained, more competitive
Knowing languages has become a fundamental skill for finding work and communicating with people from all over the world. English is the most widely spoken language on the planet, with 1,348 million speakers, according to the Ethnologue language statistics platform. They are followed by Chinese, with 1,120 million speakers; Hindi, with 600 million; and Spanish, with 543 million.
8Belts wants to captivate all those users who have spent years learning a language in academies and with private teachers without success. Although the method was designed for adults, its creators say that the results with children older than six years are positive. In addition, they offer plans to companies interested in their workers learning languages. “Having better trained employees leads to a company with better results, more competitive, productive and efficient.” 90% of companies ask for professionals with a high command of English and only 28% of Spaniards claim to speak it, according to the company.
In total, 8Belts has already offered more than 500,000 training sessions on-line to individuals and companies. The company closed 2020 with a turnover of more than six million euros. In 2021, it forecasts growth of over 70% and hopes to reach 30,000 students. This year it also intends to invest in R + D + i to modernize the platform, launch a app in order to smartphones, incorporate new languages and internationalize the business.
