Today marks the release of the long-awaited reprint of the Sanrio amiibo cards for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. However, it seems that many fans are having trouble getting their hands on them, with many unhappy fans venting their frustrations on social media.
While it’s unclear if the Sanrio amiibo cards were a limited release or will be restocked in the future, it seems that Target, the only store carrying the hotly-sought after pack of cards, received a very limited stock. As of now, the amiibo cards, which sell for $5.99 at Target, are the only way to access the Sanrio items in New Horizons.
Unfortunately, the cards were not available for pre-order or online purchase, forcing anyone who wanted the cute accessories to purchase the cards in-store. It didn’t help that the only store selling the Sanrio amiibo cards was Target. If a local Target was not accessible to you, you were out of luck.
In late January, Nintendo announced that the Sanrio amiibo collection would be coming to the West. The special amiibo cards would invite special Sanrio villagers to your island, much like the normal Animal Crossing amiibo cards, and give you access to their collection of Sanrio furniture and clothing.
Sanrio is a Japanese company that designs and produces products based on their super cute and super popular roster of characters like Hello Kitty and Aggretsuko. The collection originally released in 2017 in the UK and Japan only and has become incredibly hard to find ever since.
If players are willing to spend a more money, the Sanrio amiibo cards are available at Amazon, but at a much higher price.
